“The impetus to grow and live intensely is so powerful in me I cannot resist it.” ~Anaïs Nin
Impetus to Grow is a weekly blog from the perspective of someone on the journey toward intentional leadership. The title comes from the Anaïs Nin quote above, and whether you find her agreeable as an author or not, it’s an undeniably gorgeous bit of prose that describes my feelings so accurately I couldn’t have chosen another title.
I hope my work, or some idea I share, can be your impetus to grow.
My name is Karli Broglio and I am currently a trainer and instructional designer. I have studied a great deal of things, but the growth and development of myself and others is a common theme in my life. I love to learn and grow and, above all else, I love to help others learn and grow, personally and professionally.
Why did you choose to write a blog?
This blog came out of a realization that I have been on a journey for the past few years… Ok, the journey has probably been my whole life, but the past few years it has been a path I actively chose to be on and it is one I continue to follow. This journey has been a meandering sort of journey, but I have finally seen the destination: leadership.
I have spent my life being shy, quiet, and self-conscious which lead me to believe that I am not a leader and probably never could be. I believed leaders had to be LOUD, above doubting themselves, and either mean or idealistic beyond reason. I had painted this picture of a leader and it all added up to someone that can’t exist outside of a book or a movie. Though I knew the people in history I identified as leaders were all human folk, I’d convinced myself they were somehow better than all this messy human stuff. It seems ridiculous now, but at the time it all seemed very reasonable, I assure you 🙂
Once I recognized that my definition of a leader had effectively excluded anyone human, I had to take a hard look at what a leader was. In doing so, I also realized that I was capable of being one.
So, what now?
